About Us
L’Avenir Tutoring was originally formed in 2018 as a student run, founded, and operated organization based at Masjid Bilal Ibn Rabah. We’re an organization that seeks to make a difference in our community through service work in the form of offering academic tutoring and mentoring from some of the most qualified students on Saint Louis University’s campus. We aim to aid our local community by offering free school supplies to all members of our program (bookbags, pencils, general academic supplies, etc…). We as an organization are ultimately committed to serving and giving back to those who are less fortunate. Because of this, we feel as if this “project” is a personal obligation and passion of ours that we hope to share with the greater SLU student body and ultimately make a true meaningful impact within our Saint Louis City Community.
Our Goals
The goal of L’Avenir Tutoring is to provide a safe and effective learning environment for students of all backgrounds and abilities. We provide academic tutoring/mentoring and special programming to encourage personal and educational growth within our junior scholars. Our goal is to facilitate cross-cultural interactions between the L’Avenir Group and our students via continuous service and individualized sessions to meet the academic needs of our students. Through dedication to our community and students, the L’Avenir Tutoring Group and Executive Administrative Board strive to make a lasting and defined impact upon our Saint Louis City community and abroad through the services that we provide, free-of-charge.
A Commitment to Diversity and Excellence
We, at L’Avenir Tutoring, honor and uphold the aspects of SLU’s Jesuit Mission and are inclusive of everyone who so wishes to be a part of our organization. Regardless of gender, race, background, sexual orientation or socioeconomic status, we are rigorously committed to welcoming everyone at SLU and outside of our community into our unique program that is oriented around the above aspects of Saint Louis University’s Mission.
A better future is possible.

“As the current president and founder of the L’Avenir Tutoring Program, one of the biggest questions I get is “why?” “What was the reasoning behind starting something like this?” And as a student who’s beginnings started quite similarly to many of our students, my response has always been the same… L’Avenir from the beginning has always been about giving back. As cliche as this sounds, its the truth. I think back personally upon my life and reflect about the many personal struggles I had growing up and how without the mentorship, care and LOVE I received. L’Avenir to me means fostering our community and ensuring we do everything in our power to continue to fight for those we rely upon us. L’Avenir to me means being the very best of the best, while simultaneously having fun in our drive for excellence. L’Avenir to me means what it translates from in French…. “The Future.”

The program encourages a safe educational setting which encourages personal and educational growth within both the students and their tutors. As an organization, L’Avenir has come to prove itself in serving the underprivileged areas of metropolitan St. Louis with outreach extending beyond traditional tutoring technique. “As someone who has greatly benefitted from tutoring during my younger years, L’Avenir tutoring is not only about the quality education that is received, but about the bonding relationships that are formed between the tutor and tutee. These relationships are crucial for building trust, cooperation, and curiosity, allowing for a more fluid and effective overall experience.”

“For me, L’Avenir is a place that re-instills confidence in the students that we teach and a safe place where students can develop new skills, learn, and regain said confidence without judgement. It is also a place where students can be acknowledged for their abilities no matter their different cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. The relationships and bonds I have made and witnessed between the tutors and students at L’Avenir foster a sense of understanding and mutual-learning between both parties that is hard to find elsewhere!”

“For me, L’Avenir is about connecting with the local students and providing them a drive and interest in learning that will help them not only academically but in day to day life. As the recreation day coordinator, I am privileged to provide this drive by forming meaningful connections with students and providing the safe space for them to maintain a healthy physical and mental state through outdoor activities. Seeing these students improve academically and develop characteristically is a joyous feeling that is often noticed by parents and peers and I believe is worth devoting time to!”
